NM-AD10PC
NMEA-0183 to Furuno AD-10 Converter
Introduction
The
NM-AD10PC is an NMEA-0183 to Furuno AD-10 protocol converter.
The NM-AD10PC can be used to interface any gyrocompass or heading
sensor device capable of producing NMEA-0183 sentences with all the
Furuno instruments that require AD-10 signals as input to
acquire the heading information.
Operation
The NM-AD10PC
acquires the NMEA-0183 sentences from the Ina port and converts them to a
Furuno AD-10 signal which is a two line synchronous serial signal
consisting of a clock/shift line and a data line.
The NM-AD10PC can also be configured to function as an AD-10 and NMEA-0183
output signal generator without the need of any input. This mode can be
used while connecting to a radar or troubleshooting a faulty
interfacing on-board.
Input
The
user can select the NMEA-0183 source sentence that will be converted to Furuno
AD-10 via a dip switch array. The NMEA-0183 input sentence should be one
of the $--HDT, $--HDG, $--HDM, $--VHW and $--RMC. If a
multiplexed input is applied containing more NMEA sentences, only the selected
sentence will be processed and converted to the Furuno AD-10 format.
Outputs
The
NM-AD10PC converts the heading value acquired from any of the $--HDT,
$--HDG, $--HDM, $--VHW and $--RMC into a $HEHDT,xxx.x,T*<CR><LF> NMEA-0183
sentence that is transmitted via the RS-422 output port.
The current configuration of the selected input sentence is visually
represented from the LED B0, B1 and B2 in the front panel of the NM-AD10PC. The
transmission of the signals in the AD-10 and NMEA output port and the correct
acquisition of the configured NMEA-0183 sentence in the input are also
indicated via the TX and RX LEDS respectively.
The output rate of the AD-10 and NMEA-0183 ports can be configured via
the dip switches and can either follow the input rate or be fixed at 5Hz. The
later is suggested to be used when acquiring the heading data from a “slow”
input sentence such as the $--VHW and $--RMC.
